MULTILIT Word Attack Skills

When teaching students with learning difficulties to become independent readers, teaching phonic word attack skills is an essential component of any literacy intervention program. These skills help students to decode text by associating sounds with letters or groups of letters. The three components of MULTILIT Word Attack Skills (Revised) are accuracy, fluency and spelling.

A placement test is used to determine the appropriate starting point in the program. A specific sequence is adhered to and is presented in hierarchical order of difficulty, where essential pre-skills knowledge is taken into consideration.

It should be noted that the teaching intervention used in MULTILIT WAS is explicit and systematic and takes a ‘synthetic’ approach in line with contemporary best practice.

MULTILIT Word Attack Skills Sound Prompt Cards

A ready made set of 26 specially varnished sound prompt cards packaged in a sturdy polypropylene envelope reduces preparation time for teachers, tutors and parents. Cards are 190mmx65mm. These cards are used when teaching students single letter sounds. They present all the letter sounds of the alphabet in phrase form with supporting pictures.

MULTILIT Word Attack Skills Recording Booklet

For the student

A separate MULTILIT Word Attack Skills Recording Booklet is required for each student undertaking the program. One booklet is included with the Program and additional booklets may be purchased separately from MULTILIT. The teaching intervention for each sub-skill is included in the Recording Booklet for easy reference.

MULTILIT Word Attack Skills Downloadable Items

MULTILIT Word Attack Skills Placement Test Recording Forms are now available as consumable items. This means that multiple students can be screened for placement on MULTILIT Word Attack Skills without having to use a Recording Booklet unnecessarily. Other WAS downloadable items for product users include consumable recording forms for Oral Blending and Segmentation Exercises and Fluency Sprints, as well as the MULTILIT Word Attack Skills Achievement Certificate.
